We Share
Social Responsibility is one of the pillars of the HEART Program, with the donation of hotel goods taking center stage. It began in 2013 with the donation of mattresses from hotel units to social institutions under the name “One Mattress, One Heart.”
Over ten years, network efforts have surpassed expectations, with over 260,000 items donated to more than 180 institutions, saving 755 million liters of water in goods production.
These circular economy principles and practices contribute to the United Nations SDGs, ESG indicators, and the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
In recent years, inclusive employment and corporate volunteering have also become key aspects of the program, partnering with entities like the Portuguese Refugee Council and RedEmprega, among others.
From 2013 to the first quarter of 2024, the Portuguese Hotel Association delivered over 260,000 items to social solidarity institutions.
Considering only textiles, the HEART Program generated a water savings of over 755 million liters.
To promote inclusive recruitment in hotels associated with the Portuguese Hotel Association, the HEART Program collaborates with national institutions operating in this area.
Inclusive employment is not limited to people with specific disabilities but also includes economically disadvantaged individuals, unemployed people, and refugees identified by AHP partner institutions.
The HEART Program also integrates corporate volunteering. It offers a platform for meeting between AHP-associated hotels and the entities supported by the program.
This commitment to volunteering emphasizes AHP’s dedication and that of its members to positive impact and strengthening sector-community relationships.
